TWO patients have sadly died in one day in northern Lincolnshire’s hospitals - the first day with multiple deaths since May. They both sadly passed away on Tuesday - one was reported by the NHS on Wednesday and the second yesterday afternoon, taking the total number of Covid-19 deaths at hospitals in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole to 124.

It reflects a worrying pattern of case spikes across the area as well as more schools and workplaces being affected. Nobody died at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust hospitals in July and August.

There were four in September, but no more than one in a day.

The last day of multiple deaths was May 25, when sadly five people lost their lives. The number of people being treated in the three hospitals for Covid-19 has also continued to rise to 32 - an increase of two from Wednesday and three the day before that.

Three of those patients are in intensive care.

North East Lincolnshire recorded a record number of daily cases on Wednesday - 69, the highest since mass testing began.

To date there have been 727 cases in North East Lincolnshire and 1,395 cases in North Lincolnshire.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that there are now more people hospitalised for Covid-19 than when the country entered lockdown in March.

However, the second wave appears to be more gradual than the sudden increase which the country saw in the spring that prompted lockdown.

Yesterday the government made changes to its new Covid alert system, bringing London and Essex into the ‘high’ category and upgrading Manchester to the ‘very high’ level, which has the most severe restrictions.
