A STUDENT at Havelock Academy in Grimsby who was already in self-isolatiion has tested positive for coronavirus.

Due to them already being in quarantine, no other students or staff members have been sent home for isolation. Havelock was among a number of schools to send pupils home after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19 last week. This new case in the student body is said to be unrelated to the staff member.

In a letter to parents the school said: “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

“The person has been isolating at home for the last week so has not been in contact with anyone in the academy during this time.

“We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England at every stage.”

After the school were notified about the positive test last week they undertook extensive cleaning of the zones and classrooms the group had been in as a precautionary measure. Havelock Academy is one of several schools in the area recommending that pupils and staff wear face masks when in public areas such as corridors. A spokesperson for the school said: “We can confirm that a student from the academy has had a positive test for Covid-19, this is an unrelated case to the previous one involving a member of staff.

“Our priority continues to be the safety of our students, families and staff, and as before we have closely followed all the guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health England and will continue to do so.”

Last Wednesday, a small number of students at Caistor Yarborough Academy had to self-isolate after someone at the school tested positive for coronavirus.

As well as this, more than 78 pupils are currently in selfisolation at Tollbar and Cleethorpes Academies after four students and two teachers tested positive. Guidelines state that if a child develops symptoms of Covid-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared.
