Borough keep up momentum

-

GRIMSBY Borough beat Albion Sports 2-0 at home in the Northern Counties East League Premier.

Borough welcomed back striker Daniel Trott from Skegness Town to lead the attack against their mid-table opponents in front of a good crowd at Bradley.

They started well and settled into their passing style entertaining the crowd with some pass and move possession. Borough opened the visitors’ left side up with an overlapping run from full-back Tom Jamieson, who got into the box - but his final touch was a little heavy and the ball was cleared.

Trott was then played in by Reece York and the striker hit a thunderous left-foot drive that just cleared the bar from 20 yards. Trott should have opened the scoring when Adam Drury crossed a delightful ball into the box but the striker didn’t get enough contact on it.

Borough took a deserved lead on 40 minutes when Reece York broke through a square defence to place the ball into the corner. As the second half started, the visitors engineered a great chance for Daniel Facey. He hit a rising drive from 18 yards, but Liam Higton was up to the challenge with a great tip over the bar. The game became a little scrappy as both sides fought for possession, but Boro looked comfortable. On the hour, they made it 2-0 when Peter Winn whipped in a dfree-kick which was blocked on the line. Jordan Barnett was following up and he forced home from five yards.

The home side saw the game out and recorded back-to-back victories - closing the gap on the leaders.

Next up is a difficult trip to Penistone on Saturday.
