MORE THAN 100 NEW CORONAVIRUS CASES IN NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE

-

NEARLY 120 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in northern Lincolnshire on Tuesday, October 19.

A total of 1,056 people have tested positive in North East Lincolnshire following an additional 49 cases announced yesterday.

In North Lincolnshire, the total has risen to 1,662 following an increase of 68 new Covid-19 cases.

Public health officials are warning parents to be careful and avoid high-risk areas as half-term approaches.

More schools have confirmed coronavirus cases in recent days, including Lisle Marsden Church of England Primary Academy and Scartho Infants and Nursery School in Grimsby.

The latest NHS figures show the Grimsby region overtaking Scunthorpe in the rate of new cases.

North East Lincolnshire has seen 306 new cases in the seven days up to October 17, and has a case rate of 191.8 per 100,000. By contrast, North Lincolnshire has seen 230 - a slight decrease on the previous week - and a case rate of 133.

North East Lincolnshire Council ‘s director of public health, Stephen Pintus, urged caution in parents as he said: “The increase in cases is largely driven by the younger population.

“They are naturally social animals, out and about and mixing, and that results in a greater potential for transmission. Particularly if people aren’t following those rules around social distancing and hygiene.

“It’s important that people follow the rules, social distance, keeping good hygiene and wearing a face mask in crowded public spaces. If everyone keeps doing their bit and following the guidance then we will be able to keep the rates low.”

Five people sadly died in hospital across the region last week, a sudden uptick after months of very few fatalities from the virus. Two deaths occurred last Tuesday, one on Thursday and two on Saturday.

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, which runs hospitals in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole, doesn’t provide a breakdown of where these took place. However, as of Monday morning, it confirmed that there were 42 Covid-19 patients currently receiving treatment, two of them in intensive care.
