We want a waterpark and indoor ski slopes!

TELL US WHAT YOU’D LIKE TO SEE IN THE AREA ... BY 2025

LAST week, North East Lincolnshire Council approved plans for an extensive £25 million investment in a number of projects in Grimsby town centre. Meanwhile plans for the regeneration of the Sea Road area of Cleethorpes are progressing after the demolition of Waves nightclub.

Where we live and work is constantly changing - new developments are rising and sadly, places we’ve loved for years are closing. In five years’ time, Grimsby could look different.

But what do you want to see Grimsby have by 2025?

In a wishlist hosted by the Grimsby Telegraph’s Facebook page, readers came up with a whole host of ideas.

Time will tell if any of these getoff the ground, but here are your suggestions for the next five years.

Cleethorpes

Emma McRhida said: “A summer season of events in Cleethorpes to bring in the crowds. Beach party, themed concerts at Meridian and a classical concert in the boating lake paddock.”

Moo Skyes said: “An outdoor water park like Scarborough, something to bring people to Lincolnshire.

“Give them a reason to come to Clee, gym stuff on the beach or prom, an amazing seafood restaurant, maybe build a fake harbour with little cafes and restaurants -places for people to fish off and walk round.”

Samantha Jo posted: “More stuff for families to do. Rock climbing or a gravity centre! Somewhere that people here don’t have to travel to but people will travel here to from other places.” Kayleigh Marwood said: “Turn the ex-Pleasure Island into a decent family area like Xscape rather than more holiday lets and units.

“Instead bring in skiing, sledging, ice skating, rock climbing, a trampoline park and a water park. Decent restaurants that don’t include McDonalds. Such a waste.”

Ethna Spindley added: “A huge water park both indoor and outdoor at the ex-Pleasure Island site would be fantastic. It would put Cleethorpes and the surrounding areas on the map.”

Maxine Wallis said: “Less pubs and junk food outlets. A cleaner Cleethorpes. Bring back amusements like we had years ago to bring the tourists in. A place to be proud of. And get rid of all the derelict buildings that are an eyesore.” Sharon Bacon said: “Vision. Failing that, some decent restaurants by the cinema instead of fast food.”

Leah Louise: “A better shopping centre with more shops, better places to eat, rock climbing, snowboarding place, dog friendly restaurants. Doing up the fair on the beach, a Sunday Market.”

Grimsby

Ruth Clark said: “Wildflower verges. Corridors created for bees, insects and wildlife where people can sit and enjoy nature without having to go to a park. More trees planted around the town. Stricter rules regarding takeaway food which creates so much of our litter!”

Phil Ramsden said: “More areas planted with wild flowers, trees not cut back too much and more trees planted, more and improved cycle tracks. More pedestrianised car free areas, cheaper bus fares. There is more to life than shopping! The planet needs us to stop buying!”

Andy Ambridge said: “Sort out

Freshney Place shopping centre. “Make it affordable so our small local businesses can move into there and strike a balance between the big chains and the local businesses. Get rid of the pound shops that are taking it over. Bring in some healthier food restaurants.” Karen Leisk posted: “Shops to return into Freshney and a better positive feeling that the town is actually improving.”

Ann Nicolson said: “A decent shopping centre, not just cafes, charity shops and pubs.”

John Dickinson said: “Regeneration of the docks, waterside bars and restaurants.”

Jenny Collins thinks: “An entertainment complex similar to Teeside Park incorporated into a revamped dockland area with bars, restaurants and various family leisure complexes.”

Andy Tappin added: “A sympathetic revival of the docks area like a working Beamish Museum and the restoration of the sinking boat in Alexander dock. Help for local independent shops with rent and business rates. The Dock Tower permanently lit and wild flowers planted on the central reservation on the way in from the A180.”
