THREE new independent shops have opened for shoppers at Grimsby’s Freshney Place.

A florist, sweet shop and gothic clothing store are the latest additions to the shopping centre.

Julie Russell is excited to bring her floristry skills to Freshney Place, having opened Gillanthus earlier this month.

The business name is in memory of her late mother, Gillian Turley, combined with her favourite flower, the Lisianthius. Julie said: “The shop has been named after my mum who passed away several years ago which makes it very special to me.

“I’ve always wanted to celebrate and remember her and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

“I’m really excited to have opened here as it gives me the space and facility to offer my customers a full range of floristry. Gillianthus sell a range of creative arrangements including hand-tied and aqua bouquets, floral tributes, inspired wedding creations, flat bouquets as well as a selection of memorial items and gifts. Another independent now open is Rushby’s Sweet Treats.

Owned by Tracy Rushby, the shop offers hand-tied sweet gifts, classic pick ‘n’ mix with a huge range of traditional boiled sweets as well as milkshakes and fresh, home-made cakes supplied by H Cakes. The shop provides a selection of ‘free from’ products including dairy free and vegan milkshakes, sugar free sweets as well as vegan and gluten free cakes.

The shop also offers bespoke party, wedding and event packages.

Sensual Oils and 13 Moons is a collaboration between two former market tenants who have united together to open a new shop.

It offers a wide range of Gothic clothing and accessories, crystals, salt lamps, tarot cards and provide tarot card and spiritual readings.

Essential oils, holistic crystals, candles and incense will also be available. Centre director at Freshney Place, Amanda Austin, said: “I’m delighted that our number of small independent retailers is growing.

“The beauty of independents is that they can bring diverse and often unique produce to the centre.

“Being local traders they tend to have great insight when it comes to interpreting what our customers want and can provide bespoke offers for them.

We have enjoyed working and supporting these independent retailers during this early phase and their set up and similarly we’re looking forward to working with the trio as their businesses grow and develop. We wish them the very best of success. “We would really encourage anyone who has ever thought about or might like to try a high-street position to come and talk to us to explore opportunities.”
