Maverick loan star ‘doesn’t stop chasing and running’

OWEN WINDSOR HAS IMPRESSED IN HIS SHORT TIME AT CLUB

IAN Holloway has praised the impact of on-loan forward Owen Windsor since joining Grimsby Town from West Brom.

The 19-year-old joined the Mariners in a deal lasting until the end of the season just over a week ago, and has already made a telling impact on his new side’s fortunes. Having made his debut in the goalless draw with Bolton, Windsor would go on to score his first goal for the club a few days later as he sealed the 3-1 win over Cheltenham to secure Town’s first victory of the season.

And the Baggies’ Under-23s star produced a man of the match display as the Mariners picked up their second win of the week at Leyton Orient.

Windsor was a constant thorn in the side of the O’s defenders, assisting George Williams for the visitors’ second before his barnstorming run in stoppage time earned his side the penalty from which Montel Gibson secured the 3-2 victory.

He was rested for the midweek defeat against Harrogate, but will be in line to come back into the side on Saturday.

On Windsor’s impact, Holloway said: “I thought the run and the pass for the goal was sensational. The kid is a joy to have, I’m so delighted to have added him.

“He’s like a maverick, he doesn’t care if someone hits him, he just gets up and keeps bundling on. “He’s got so much ability, and the lads love him. As a centre-forward, you’ve also got to work hard without the ball these days, and he doesn’t stop chasing and running. “When the big lump smashed him in the first couple of minutes, I felt sorry for the big lump because you don’t want to wake him up! He loves that sort of challenge.

“I’m delighted for him, and I’m delighted West Brom have let me have him.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am of my new lads. We’ve only just got this group together, and the awkward bit is that I’ve got seven loanees, and I can only use five every time, so I’ve got to leave two out however well they do. It’s not going to be ideal, but I’m delighted to work with this group, we’re going to try and get ourselves going.

“It was an awful, weird start to be shut down again, and let’s hope we can pick up a bit of momentum. “We feel like we did, but that was an exhausting week, and we’ve got another week, then another week, then another week, but well done to them.”
