-

A BRITISH Superbike rider roared in to officially open a new workshop for people with learning difficulties.

Peter Hickman visited Louth Interskill which now has a new motorcycle shop inspired by one of its students.

In 2004, Danny Stanton, a keen motorcyclist, secured the British Masters Grass Track Championship but on August 28, 2005 he was involved in a near fatal crash while competing on the Lincolnshire Poacher Grass Track at Wainfleet.

Danny was rushed to hospital with multiple life-changing injuries including severe head injuries. His parents were given the devastating news that he wouldn’t survive the night.

Thankfully Danny showed he was a fighter and he spent several weeks in intensive care before being transferred to a trauma unit where he continued to improve.

On their Facebook page, Interskill said: “Danny is a wonderful young man who has a caring and kind personality and is always willing to help others.

“He has made many new friends in this time and often has them laughing with his quick wit.

“Danny can mainly be found working in the woodworking department but his real passion is motorbikes as a regular at Cadwell with his Dad.”

The charity were inspired by Danny’s determination and decided to set up their own motorbike restoration workshop for Danny and the other students to work in and enjoy.

They were joined by Louthbased Peter Hickman who cut the ribbon alongside Danny and spent some time with the students at Interskill. Interskill said: “Peter was joined by his crew chief Darren Jones, they brought with them the superbike that they are currently competing on in the British Superbikes. “Peter and his team very generously gifted a Smiths racing jacket and polo shirt to Danny and signed pictures for all the students, which they were over the moon to receive. “We really can’t thank them enough.”
