GRIMSBY Town’s tonic win at Crawley on Tuesday night will have no doubt lifted a huge weight off their shoulders.

Goals from Matt Green and Max Wright either side of the break saw them win 2-1 in Sussex after Max Watters’ early strike.

And after a difficult few days on and off the pitch, the victory comes at the perfect time for the Mariners, who now have the weekend off. James Findlater shares his player ratings from Crawley...

James McKeown:

Absolutely vital save by the skipper from Watters to keep his side in front. Marshalled his troops well as they battled to victory 7/10

Luke Hendrie: Town certainly look a more solid unit with his presence at the back. Got himself in the right areas to snuff out danger, especially after McKeown’s important save 7/10

Luke Waterfall: After a little bit of a shaky start, proved to be a rock at the back. Got himself in the right position to head off the line in the second half, and made there was no way back for the hosts 8/10

Duncan Idehen: Looked a little uncertain early on, but got to grips with things as the game wore on. His injury will be a concern, especially with Town short on numbers at the back 7/10

Danny Preston: Found himself under pressure early on, but thereafter really shored things up out on the left and played his side out of trouble a few times 7/10

Max Wright: A constant thorn in Crawley’s side. Bought his side great positions for free-kicks, carried the ball well, and a superb finish to secure the win. Brilliant performance 8/10 ( STAR MAN)

Elliott Hewitt: Showed he was up for the fight as he made his first start since returning from injury. Slotted in at centre-back after Idehen’s injury and did a fine job 7/10

Danny Rose: His experience and nous proved vital as Town held onto their win. Provided the shield in front of his defence, broke up play and got his side out of trouble 8/10 Owura Edwards: Proved the perfect outlet for Town, particularly late on as they needed to get the ball as far away as possible. Came up with the all-important assist for the winner 7/10

Sean Scannell: By far his best display in a black and white shirt. Drove at the opposition, held the ball up well, controlled the ball perfectly. This is what we’ve been waiting for 8/10

Matt Green: A huge weight lifted off his shoulders with that goal. Worked hard for the cause, and Max Wright’s comments afterwards show how much he’s appreciated by his team-mates 7/10

From the bench

Harry Clifton (Idehen 75): Added some bite as Town fought to hold on to their lead. His energy certainly helped them across the

line 6/10

Virgil Gomis (Edwards 83): Got stuck in and did some dirty work to ensure Town got the three points.

Joe Starbuck make an impact.

Luis Adlard (Scannell 90+1): Nice to see the Youth Team star get his league debut.

(Green 90+1): Too late to

Not used: Battersby, Taylor, Spokes.
