OUR SCHOOLS RANKED IN THE SUNDAY TIMES’ BEST LIST

FOUR more schools in our area have been en ranked among The Sunday Times’ best est schools for 2021 against establishm­ents nts from across the UK.

The schools join St Martin’s Preparator­y ory School, on Bargate in Grimsby, which was revealed as the third best preparator­y ory school in the UK this week.

The guide allows parents to identify and nd compare the top 2,000 state and independnd­ent schools in the country, all ranked by their 2019 examinatio­n results.

The Sunday Times have chosen not to use the 2020 examinatio­n outcomes due to the disruption caused by the pandemic.

Fairfield Fairfield Academy Academy

Fairfield Academy in Scartho has made an appearance on the list of the best state primary schools for 2021 according to The Sunday Times.

Under the leadership of head teacher Kizzi Matanga, the school has been newly listed as the 185th best state primary in the UK out of 500 that were ranked.

In the list, primary schools are ranked on their performanc­e in standard assessment tests (Sats) taken in 2019. Performanc­e is assessed through an average of scaled scores achieved by children in the three areas of: reading, GPS (grammar, punctuatio­n and spelling) and mathematic­s with 100 being the average score expected nationally.

In reading Fairfield achieved a scaled score of 109 and in Mathematic­s they achieved a scaled score of 110.

Caistor Caistor Grammar School School

Caistor Grammar School has been ranked as the 105th best state secondary school for 2021 according to the latest guide. Selective schools are ranked by performanc­e at A-level and GCSE in summer 2019 and Caistor has risen from 144th place last year.The number of A*, A or B grades gained is expressed as a percentage of the total number of A-level entries overall.

The number of 9, 8, or 7 grades gained at GCSE is expressed as a percentage of the total number of GCSE entries overall. Head teacher Alistair Hopkins and his staff and students have achieved a rate of 67.5% A*-B at A-Level and 63.6% 9 -7 at GCSE.

King Edward Edward VI Grammar VI School Grammar School

The King Edward VI Grammar School in Louth has made the list as the 246th best state secondary school in the UK.

The school has fallen from its place as the 206th in last year’s Times guide. As above the number of A*, A or B grades gained is expressed as a percentage of the total number of A-level entries overall and the number of 9, 8, or 7 grades gained at GCSE is expressed as a percentage of the total number of GCSE entries overall. Pupils and staff, under the leadership of Head James Lascelles, achieved a rate of 58.6% A*-B at A-level and 38.1% 9 - 7 at GCSE.

Franklin Sixth Form College

Franklin Sixth Form College on Chelmsford Avenue in Grimsby has been newly listed as the 54th best out of the 75 colleges listed by The Sunday Times.

Sixth form colleges in the list are ranked by the proportion of students achieving AAB at A-level in two or more “facilitati­ng subjects” during the 2019 summer examinatio­n period.

Facilitati­ng subjects are those required by many leading universiti­es and include English, maths, further maths, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, and languages.

The College, under the guidance of head teacher Peter Kennedy, has achieved a rate of 7.5% AAB in facilitati­ng subjects among the 1505 pupils it teaches every year.
