Exeter head to Cleethorpes on a massive high

CLASH

-

EXETER City midfielder Nicky Law is looking for the Grecians to continue their hot streak in tonight’s clash against Grimsby Town. City’s inspired form has seen them bounce back from defeat against Oldham to win their last two matches - and score nine goals in the process.

After smashing Colchester 6-1 in League Two, they beat League One side Gillingham 3-2 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Law said: “We are on top of our game at the moment and we just need to continue that.

“We’ve had a good response to the home defeat to Oldham but it will be another difficult game, it’s one of the longer trips of the season.

“They have had a difficult start to the season but had a good win in their last match away at Crawley. I think it will be up to us to show a bit of consistency and if we play how we’ve been then Grimsby will know they are in a tough game.”

Exeter City boss Matt Taylor was delighted with his side’s cup triumph on Saturday. He said: “That was a big win for us. In the context of where the two teams are in their respective leagues, that’s a cup upset and the first one in terms of me and this group of players.

“It was a hell of a shift and we are absolutely delighted. We played some fantastic attacking football at times, had to weather the storm and stand up to some physical football from the opposition and full credit to them as they did well.

“It was nail-biting towards the end but I thought we deserved the win.”

“Our attacking players have a lot of joy playing in the team as they are getting a lot of the ball and a lot of the ball between the lines - and I definitely would not want to be a defender against this group of players at the moment.

“We looked like we could not score at will, but create when we went forward, and we took the sting out of the game in the second half.

“Considering we gifted them the first goal and went behind, we came back into so well and then had to withstand a bit of pressure at the end, but I am not so worried about that, as it’s a big win for the football club.”
