A DIABETIC dog who went blind almost overnight has spiralled into a state of depression.

Storm, a Siberian Husky, has “not been himself” since losing sight in both of his eyes about two months ago. His owner, Frank Sparkes, says he wants his eight-year-old dog to just get his eyesight back for Christmas. Frank, from Grimsby, said: “It has taken a toll on Storm as he is very depressed.

“But, the Blue Cross have assured us with the right surgery he will be able to see again.”

Animal lover Frank added: “He has not been himself. He just sleeps and bumps into doors and walls. It’s been very heartbreaking to see.

“He went blind almost overnight due to the cataracts.

“I know some dogs cope well after going blind but Storm has been struggling - he’s just not the same dog. “Very lethargic and lays on the floor in the kitchen most days. Having to get his insulin levels right has also been an uphill battle.”

Frank’s concern for Storm grew more so after witnessing him bump into trees in Weelsby Woods, Grimsby, whilst on one of his regular walks.

He said: “Storm has always been a bouncy beautiful husky and to see him so lethargic and depressed is heartbreaking.

“For him to be able to go on walks and not bump into things would mean the world to us.

“It’s been so hard every day waking up at 6am to inject storm’s insulin and making sure the dosage is correct. “For him to be able to see again knowing that all it would take is an operation, I would almost do anything to make that happen.”

Frank, a retired trawlerman, has been quoted £4,000 per eye and has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for the treatment.

He said: “If we can just get one eye operated on it would be the biggest Christmas present we could ever ask for. ” Money donated to the GoFundMe page goes straight to Paragon Veterinary Referrals in Wakefield who have been made aware of Storm’s situation. Frank’s says the GoFundMe page has so far raised about £370 in just seven days.
