Four-day wait warning over festive bin collections

COUNCIL SAYS PANDEMIC WILL DELAY SOME ROUNDS

SOME people may have to wait an extra four days for their bins to be emptied over the Christmas period.

North East Lincolnshire households have been warned that waste and recycling collections change over the festive period and have said there could be some disruption due to the pandemic. North East Lincolnshire Council have told residents to look out for the Christmas collections leaflet arriving in their letterbox this week or to check their website for further information. The council said that if crews do not get to properties on the dates listed, bins are to be taken in and put out again before 7am the next collection day. Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “The booklet also includes a handy guide to recycling and changes we’re introducing next year, as well as information about the Community Recycling Centres and our bulky waste service. “Our crews will be busier than ever this Christmas, they deal with about 500 more tonnes of waste and recycling than they usually do. It could be even higher this year as more people are staying at home.

“Please be patient. Our staff will do everything they can to cope with the extra demand, but the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and other problems such as bad weather could cause some disruption.”

They ask that people plan ahead and think about how you are going to dispose of their Christmas waste, ensuring they put the correct bins out before 7am on collection day.

The council also asks that people take bins back to their properties after the crew has been and take any extra rubbish to the Community Recycling Centres (CRC or the tip) in Grimsby or Immingham.

Please be patient. Our staff will do everything they can to cope with the extra demand.
