Chairman blasts EFL for bailout

-

“The £30million grant is for loss of gate revenue, the £20million monitored grant is on the basis of need of clubs.

“We were told from day one that any compensation negotiated with the Premier League would be on the basis of lost gate revenue, so only £30million is on that, the other £20million is based on a club’s need. “That means the clubs that were well-run before the lockdown probably won’t have a need and therefore won’t get a share of the £20million. Those that were perhaps not as well-run and were in financial difficulties before the lockdown will be able to establish a need and get part of that.”

Mr Day added: “The paper received from the EFL says they’re working on how this will be apportioned. There’s a couple of points there that I’m very unhappy with the EFL about.

“First and foremost is this is a done deal as far as clubs are concerned. Clubs were not consulted whether they agreed with this or not. “We’re very unhappy about that when the EFL could actually, on 24 hours’ notice, have a meeting of clubs on Project Big Picture a few weeks ago, why couldn’t we have had a meeting before the EFL did this? “Secondly, and probably more importantly, from day one it has been said by the EFL that the compensation will be based on lost gate revenues, so why on earth haven’t they been calculating that? “They have the information, they could have told us how they arrived at the figures being split between the clubs. That’s not coming for a couple of weeks.”
