‘LIDL LAD’S’ BIG OBSESSION WITH SUPERMARKET
SMITTEN SAM EVEN HAS A STAFF FACE MASK
A MAN from Grimsby is getting himself known as the ‘Lidl Lad’ after becoming obsessed with the supermarket’s branded clothing.
Sam Ward, 23, visits the Cromwell Road supermarket every day to buy lunch for work and decided to buy one of the store’s Lidl-branded Christmas jumpers for a laugh.
But he has quickly become obsessed with Lidl clothing and now has the supermarket’s official trainers, as well as being sent one of their face masks after speaking with them online.
The trainers are yet to be sold in the UK, with Sam buying his pair on eBay for £75, £61 more than what they were selling for in Europe.
Sam sent a photo of him wearing the Christmas jumper and trainers to the supermarket’s social media page, asking whether he could get one of the staff face masks to complete his Lidl look. While they were uncertain at first, they decided to ship him one out on next-day delivery, much to the delight of Sam. He said: “It’s like Christmas has come early. I love the shop, I go in there every day as I live around the corner. I pop in to get my pack-up before work.
“I did it as a joke at first, but now I can’t wait for the next piece of clothing to come out! The mask is the newest thing I have, I sent them a picture of me wearing the jumper and the trainers and that I wanted a face mask.
“Someone said no at first, but then they must have changed their mind because they said yes and shipped one to me on next-day delivery!
“It’s a great thing from them, to get it sent over in the middle of all of this and answering one customer’s request, it’s brilliant to see.
“I absolutely love the trainers, they are incredibly comfortable and I think if they had a Nike logo on them, everyone would have them!
“I had to buy mine on eBay and ended up spending £75 on them.
“All of my mates thought it was funny at first, but a few of them have bought their own pairs since because they were that

impressed by them.”
Sam has already made an impact in the local shop, being called ‘Lidl Lad’ by staff.
He said: “I was in there one day with my girlfriend and one of the staff turned around and asked her “You’re Lidl-Lad’s girlfriend, aren’t you?” So that’s what I must be known as now!”
Sam is yet to stop with his Lidl merchandise, though, and has already eyed up what he would like the supermarket chain to release next.
He said: “I’d love a pair of joggers from them, it would just complete the set and I could go out head-to-toe wearing their clothing.
“Either that or maybe a hat, which I think would go well with the face mask.”
