A GRIMSBY school has sent home all of its pupils until the last day of term due to a confirmed case of coronavirus. Woodlands Academy in Nunsthorpe sent a text message to parents on Friday asking them to collect their children from school. The message said that their “support in these difficult times is much appreciated”.

It is understood that a member of staff tested positive for Covid19, resulting in the school closing until Friday, December 18, the last day of term.

The confirmed years affected are from Reception to Year 6 who will now access remote learning from home.

It is understood the pre-school will still be open as the member of staff does not have direct contact with children there.

In messages sent out to parents, a spokesperson for the school said: “We have a confirmed positive case within our school community. PHE have advised all contacts to be sent home. R1-Y6 are to isolate until December 18. “Please make your way to school to collect your children. Playground gates will be open. Your support in these difficult times is much appreciated.

“Please bear with us whilst we get all pupils sent home safely and quickly. We will be in touch re: remote learning this afternoon, thank you Woodlands.”

In a further letter to parents, head teacher Rachel Green confirmed children will have to go back for one day before the Christmas holidays.

Mrs Green wrote: “Thank you for your support and understanding.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back in to school on Friday December 18.”

One family member has praised the school for its actions and believed they acted accordingly to the risk.

They commented: “I personally am relieved as I didn’t want them (my children) at school as they have bad asthma, so I didn’t want them at risk.”
