Coronavirus brings tragedy for December
DECEMBER is proving to be a tragic month as coronavirus has claimed the life of 21 hospital patients in northern Lincolnshire so far. Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust confirmed 20 new deaths to the overall total of the pandemic over the weekend – 14 of which have happened in the last few days.
The remaining six were for days in November and October following a lag in reporting by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust. The figures released on Saturday and Sunday reported nine new deaths on Friday, December 4, two on Saturday,
December 5 and three on Thursday, December 3. Combined with other deaths already reported last week, it brings the total to 21 so far in December.
The trust does not specify which hospitals the patients were being treated at, but they would have happened at either Grimsby, Scunthorpe or Goole hospitals.
This brings the death toll in northern Lincolnshire to 273 since the pandemic began. Despite the high number of deaths, positive cases of coronavirus continues to fall. There were 130 new cases confirmed across northern Lincolnshire across the two days. On Sunday, there were 65 new positive cases – 23 in North East Lincolnshire and 42 in North Lincolnshire.
There were also 65 new cases on Saturday, 25 in North East Lincolnshire and 40 over the North Lincolnshire border. This brings the total for North East Lincolnshire to 5,389 since the pandemic began compared with 5, 021 in North Lincolnshire.
In total across both regions, there have been 10,410 positive cases of Covid.
The real figure could be much more than this as those who have self-isolated after showing symptoms, may not have been tested.
