A SPECTACULAR Christmas display is bringing happiness to families who have been viewing it safely from their car. Stephanie Barker has created the display at her home in Thoresway near Caistor and along with displays from her neighbours, makes it a remarkable sight to behold.

Stephanie says the display has been set up in an effort to raise money for St Mary’s Church in the village which has been closed since March.

She said: “We have decorated our gardens – myself and my neighbours.

“We encouraged people to drive by and see the scenes we have created – a workshop, baby Jesus in a stable and an iceberg scene.” “The church is in need of some urgent repairs as funds are extremely low.

“We have decided to do something to help the situation. “After the year everyone has had with lockdown, we decided to do something to brighten up our small community.”

The neighbours have set up collection boxes at the end of their driveways for people to make cash donations.

Elsewhere, residents on a Scunthorpe housing estate have produced a stunning display of community spirit with a light display that spans streets throughout the area.

The Lakeside estate has been transformed into something of a winter wonderland in an effort that has brought the whole community into the streets decorating and helping out in a responsible way.

Brothers Mark and Steve Fawcett, owners of local business Bespoke Blinds, have been central to creating the light show and have been helped by many others from the estate.

Mark said: “We just want something to help cheer people up, it has been a terrible year for most people so something like this is needed.

“It started with just a few lights and it’s escalated from there really, we’ll just keep going until the whole thing is covered.

“It’s good to see people coming out and helping each other, a lot of people have been contributing towards buying the lights. I think there is about £610 worth just on this road.”
