CORONAVIRUS has claimed more lives in hospitals in northern Lincolnshire - making December the deadliest start of the month of the pandemic so far.

In the latest NHS figures released yesterday, four more deaths have been reported by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

Three people died on Saturday, December 5 and one on Sunday December 6.

It means 25 people have so far died in the first six days of December

November was the deadliest month of the pandemic so far for the North Lincolnshire and Goole

Hospital Trust during which 102 deaths registered with a positive test for Covid-19.

In the first six days of November, Covid had claimed 23 lives.

The trust does not release the details of which specific hospital the deaths occur but the group includes the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital and the Goole and District Hospital. The four new deaths brings the toll to 277 since the pandemic began.

As of yesterday morning there were 157 inpatients in the region’s hospitals being treated for Covid19.

Of these there were 64 at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, 89 at Scunthorpe General

Hospital and four at Goole and District Hospital.

Of the Covid-19 positive inpatients there are three in Intensive Care Units, two of these in Grimsby and one in Scunthorpe. Across the UK there were 190 deaths where the patient had tested positive for Covid-19 during the last 24 hour period.

The highest number of these were in the Midlands where 64 people tragically lost their lives, in the North East and Yorkshire this number was 32.

Of the 190 deaths recorded, 102 were aged 80+, 78 were aged 60 – 79 and 10 were aged between 40 and 59. It has been announced that the North Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital Trust will not be among the first 50 hubs to receive the Pfizer vaccine. The nearest vaccination hubs to northern Lincolnshire are Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Professor Stephen Powis, NHS national medical director, said: “Despite the huge complexities, hospitals will kickstart the first phase of the largest scale vaccination campaign in our country’s history from Tuesday. The first tranche of vaccine deliveries will be landing at hospitals by Monday in readiness. The NHS has a strong record of delivering large scale vaccination programmes – from the flu jab, HPV vaccine and lifesaving MMR jabs – hardworking. staff will once again rise to the challenge to protect the most vulnerable people from this awful disease.”
