A LOUTH musician has written a Christmas song inspired by people’s kindness throughout 2020.

Jake Newby, 45, has released his single Christmas Angel on BandCamp for £2 per download.

He plans to donate all proceeds to food banks in both Louth and Grimsby.

Jake says his song is inspired by the kindness people have shown towards each other throughout this tough year.

Jake said: “It has been a difficult time, but when my family and I were isolating at the beginning of November with Covid – thankfully not very severe – so many people were there for us.

“It made me think that’s what the Christmas spirit is about, but it’s also something I’ve seen throughout the year.”

Jake’s song, which was released on November 30, wishes people ‘hope, health, happiness, love and peace’ this festive season.

It includes a touching verse which reads: “But then my Christmas Angel is sitting next to me, “Telling me it’s not the gifts you get but the kindness you receive, “A loving thought can’t be sold or bought but it sits above them all, “I’ll be here throughout the year all you got to do is call.”

The entire song took Jake just three days to write and record which he says is “unusual for me”. He added: “I love Christmas and I always wanted to write a Christmas song.

“It really was something that came together to reflect the moment I was doing it. It was a bit intense but it stopped me overthinking it, so the sentiments are honest.

“My family helped out too – you might be able to hear my five-yearold singing in the middle section. “It’s quite low in the mix, but you can hear him singing ‘love and peace’ which was very cute.”
