A MAN has been arrested after police surrounded a house on the East Marsh which saw a road closed for several hours.

Officers from Humberside Police closed off Roberts Street between Weelsby Street and Stanley Street junctions at around 9.30am on Friday morning.

Originally, police were investigating a concern for a man’s welfare when he refused to leave the property, leading to a number of officers surrounding the house.

However, the man locked himself in and was in the front, upstairs bedroom of the property until 11.42am, where he was promptly arrested and led to the police van before being taken away from the scene.

Humberside Police have now confirmed that the man was arrested on suspicion of threats to commit arson in connection with this incident and remained in police custody.

Originally, a spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We are in attendance at a property on Roberts Street, Grimsby following reports of concern for the safety of a man inside the address.

“We are in communication with the man and are taking steps to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.”

Following the arrest, the spokesperson said: “Attending officers arrested a man on suspicion of threats to commit arson in connection with this incident. He was arrested at 11.42 at the Roberts Street property and is now in our custody as enquiries continue.” Shortly following the arrest, several police cars remained on the scene and the road was reopened.
