MORE TOLL BAR ROUNDABOUT CLOSURES IN NEW YEAR

- By GREGORY FORD gregory.ford@reachplc.com @FordWrit

THERE will be more disruption for drivers on the A16 as works on the Toll Bar roundabout near their competition in early 2021.

The project, which has been rumbling on for six months, will have more traffic management measures in place in the new year to allow for final finishing of the splitter islands, resurfacing and new lines. North East Lincolnshire Council have confirmed that contractors finished work for the festive season on Friday, before recommencing on Monday, January 4.

Cabinet member for transport and the environment, Cllr Stewart Swinburn, said: “I would like to thank parish councillors, residents, businesses, Tollbar Academy, and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding over the course of the works. I appreciate it has caused inconvenience, but am also pleased with the way the work has kept on schedule in these difficult times. “I welcome it entering its final stages and, like everybody else, will be pleased to see it completed early in the new year.”

North East Lincolnshire Council have confirmed that in the new year, the following traffic management measures will be put in place: Starting Monday, January 4, for up to three weeks, between 9.30am – 2.30pm, Station Road east and west will be closed and the A16 will be under two-way lights to allow splitter islands to be reinstated and central island works. Pedestrian access to Tollbar Academy will be maintained and these closures will be the same as the ones from earlier on in the project.

Monday, January 11 to Friday, January 15, there will be overnight works between 7.30pm and 5.30am with two-way lights on Station Road (west) to allow footway works nearest the Toll Bar Academy entrance to be completed. This closure is in addition to the day-time closure. Monday, January 18, for up to two weeks, there will be night works between 7.30pm and 5.30am which will see the closure of each roundabout arm and the roundabout itself to allow for resurfacing and road markings to be reinstated.

The council is currently exploring options with the surfacing contractor to reduce or remove the need for a full closure. Specific issues regarding the project can be raised by contacting the delivery team by email at Tollbarjunction@nelincs.gov.uk or you can write to Toll Bar Junction Improvements Engagement Team, New Oxford House, George Street, Grimsby, DN31 1HB.

The public liaison officer appointed by CR Reynolds, Chris Butts, is available until Friday during office hours on 07779 431 127 or email at tollbarroundabout@crreynolds.co.uk
