Hewitt, Spokes and Pollock the top performers

- Not used: Russell, Khouri, Sisay.

THE derby day bragging rights belong to Grimsby Town after their 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Blundell Park.

Mattie Pollock’s first half goal was enough to seal the Mariners’ first win in six games, and make it back-to-back derby victories after their last outing all the way back in March.

James Findlater shares his player ratings from Blundell Park...

James McKeown: Back in the side, although truth to be told he probably could have had the day off. Other than the odd clearance, he had nothing to do all afternoon 6/10

Luke Hendrie: You know what you’re going to get from him - a solid, honest afternoon’s work. This was, of course, no different 7/10

Elliott Hewitt: Thrust in the heart of the defence, and went about his business superbly. A nervy moment at the end as a mistake looked to have put the Iron through, but he recovered quickly 8/10

Mattie Pollock: Town’s joint-top scorer this season now, and he showed maturity beyond his years at the back. There was no way he was letting Scunthorpe through

Danny Preston: Stayed level-headed on an occasion which could have easily overwhelmed a young defender. Kept things solid down the left 7/10 Filipe Morais: Has added some quality to the ranks since his arrival, and with that and his experience, Town have gone some way to fixing some of their issues 7/10

8/10 (STAR MAN)

Harry Clifton: A strong tackle early on tested the waters, and it seemed the visitors weren’t up to the task. Battled non-stop in the middle 7/10 Luke Spokes: It could have easily been a baptism of fire for him, but he got better and better as the game wore on, and in the end the Iron couldn’t get the ball off him

Kyle Bennett: A few dangerous deliveries from corners, including the one that led to the goal of course. Didn’t quite get the opportunity to stretch his legs in open play, but then not many did 6/10 Ira Jackson Jr: Didn’t get on the scoresheet this time, but yet again he proved that he deserves his place in the team at the moment. Worked tirelessly up front 7/10

Montel Gibson: Didn’t quite come off for him on this occasion, but still played an important part up front alongside Jackson Jr 6/10

8/10

From the bench

Owura Edwards (Bennett 62): Given the way the game was going, it was always unlikely he’d get the chance to show off his pace 6/10

Matt Green (Gibson 62): Good to see him back, and he added a little bit of know-how as Town protected their lead 6/10

James Tilley (Jackson Jr 79): His comeback from injury continues with another 15 or so minutes under his belt.

Joe Starbuck (Morais 82): A late cameo to help see Town across the line.
