Fans angry over sudden departure

-

GRIMSBY Town fans aren’t too impressed with Ian Holloway’s reasons for resigning as the club’s manager.

The 57-year-old quit as Mariners boss after less than a year in charge, just hours after the defeat to Bradford City.

Holloway released a statement on his personal Twitter account, in which he stated that contact from potential new owners caused him to decide to leave Blundell Park.

“New wannabe owners are hovering over GTFC and John (Fenty) has told me he is selling his stake in the club. So it’s time for a fresh start across the board for this great club,” Holloway said in a statement.

Town fans, though, weren’t too happy with Holloway’s reasons for his departure.

Many took to Twitter to reply directly to the former Mariners boss voicing their displeasure with his decision to resign. Here is a small selection:

@MikeyMcMahon: Thought you weren’t going unless you were told to Ollie. Sorry but your words obviously mean nothing @Matt69tomo: Very disappointed, didn’t have you down as someone to shy away from a losing battle. The clubs in big mess partly down to the players that you’ve signed and now you’ve walked. Sounds like an easy way out.

@Gaggs21: You assembled a squad not good enough, left us a few points off relegation. BUT the fans were still backing you. Now you walk away a week before the most important transfer window in our history leaving a new manager very little time to asses the squad. Thanks for nothing Ian.
