NHS staff working at Diana, Princess of Wales hospital throughout the coronavirus pandemic have been given free meals as a thank you by a Cleethorpes restaurant and takeaway.

A total of 200 curries with naan bread, bhajis and samosas were delivered to the hospital thanks to Rumon Mizanur Rahman and his staff at Me2Raj in Cleethorpes. Rumon gave 1,120 meals to hospital staff during the first lockdown and has continued his support for staff.

The restaurant and takeaway was chosen by Meals for NHS to help under pressure staff caring for the increasing numbers of Covid patients.

Many of them do not have time to go out to buy food for meals nor the time to cook for themselves because of the long hours caring for Covid patients.

They sent a “Thank You” message to the staff at the Cleethorpes restaurant who worked from 1pm to 6pm to prepare the food.

In addition to the 200 meals for the hospital, a further 20 were donated to the staff at Harbour Place.

Rumon said: “What they are all doing for our loved ones at this difficult time, is fantastic. “We are proud to be part of the Meals for the NHS. It is impossible for many of them to find the time to shop and cook for themselves. “The team here were pleased to be able to support them and we are glad they enjoyed the meals.

“As a local business we all help each other and if we do that we can get through this coronavirus pandemic.”

He said he and his four staff worked from 1pm to 6pm to prepare jalfrezi, korma, tikka masala and balti dishes along with naan breads.

He also gave 20 meals to Cloverdale care home staff.

Hospital stall will also enjoy a free curry on Christmas Day thanks to Fernando Senaratha, of Alamin on Cromwell Road.

He is giving away 150 meals on Christmas Day for Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital staff, homeless people and those at YMCA and Women’s Refuge if they collect meals from 3pm at his Cromwell Road takeaway. This will be the fourth year he has given food on Christmas Day thanks to donors, friends and family who will help him cook the meals.

What they are all doing for our loved ones at this difficult time is fantastic.
