A MAN from Grimsby had to be rescued after travelling to the Lincolnshire coastline which is now in Tier 4.

He became cut off by the tide while walking near Theddlethorpe. Mablethorpe Coastguard say the man had visited the beach with his wife and child, and couldn’t get back to his vehicle.

The man asked for directions from someone he met, but was mistakenly directed back to the wrong car park. He became “cold and disorientated” as night fell.

Mablethorpe RNLI conducted a shoreline search to find him, while coastguard teams searched access points to the beach.

His wife and child were found safely at Crookbank car park near Mablethorpe.

The man was eventually located two miles away on the main road, walking towards Saltfleet.

The coastguard say he was cold but happy to be rescued.

The family were reunited and given words of advice before returning to Grimsby. Mablethorpe Coastguard has also issued a warning to anyone else visiting the area.

“We appreciate that our coastline is attractive and lovely to walk on even a cold day but we recommend that you are dressed appropriately for the weather, have ave a map or fully charged phone with maps available to ensure you know where you are if you get into trouble,” they said. “As always, if you see a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”

The government advises against travelling from Tier 3 to 4 areas areas, except for essential reasons. These include work, school, support bubbles, medical treatment and childcare.

Official coronavirus guidance says that wherever possible, people should stay in their village or town.
