Takeaway food and alcohol have changed under the new rules

AS a new lockdown becomes law, the Government has confirmed that alcohol can only be sold in shops.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation last night to outline plans of a third lockdown for England to curb the spread of coronavirus.

And there will be no takeaway pints from restaurants or pubs of any kind under the new restrictions. This is because officials have seen people who ordered takeaway or click and collect alcohol staying at the venue and grouping outside, reports BirminghamLive. However, you can still get takeaway food - which people generally tend to take it home.

All non-essential shops, hairdressers and personal care venues must close as part of the new lockdown. Supermarkets, builders’ merchants and garden centres can stay open. Restaurants and other hospitality venues can continue delivery or takeaway, but not with alcohol. Boris Johnson suggested England could “steadily” move out of lockdown from mid-February. Urging caution about the timetable, he said: “If our understanding of the virus doesn’t change dramatically, once again, if the rollout of the vaccine programme continues to be successful, if deaths start to fall as the vaccine takes effect and - critically - if everyone plays their part by following the rules, then I hope we can steadily move out of lockdown, reopening schools after the February half-term and starting cautiously to move regions down the tiers.”

Once again, those entitled to free school meals will be provided for during the lockdown. Manchester

United footballer and free school meals campaigner Marcus Rashford tweeted: “Well that’s progress. Happy to hear the Prime Minister reference free school meal extension during lockdown.

“Should never be in question. Let’s all stay safe and check in on each other often.”
