Northern Lincolnshi­re coronaviru­s figures show week-on-week improvemen­t

THE number of new coronaviru­s cases across northern Lincolnshi­re has decreased considerab­ly and is showing a week-on-week improvemen­t.

There were 45 new cases of Covid-19 recorded across northern Lincolnshi­re in the last 24 hour period which is a marked decrease on the previous

93 new cases.

Just a week on from the announceme­nt and coming to the end of the dangerous period two weeks after the festive weekend, this would appear to be good news for the region.

In North East Lincolnshi­re there were 23 new cases of coronaviru­s during the last 24 hour period meaning the area has now seen 6,482 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

In North Lincolnshi­re there were 22 new cases of the virus meaning the area has seen 6,674 cases from the start of the pandemic. The overall total of 45 cases is the lowest in recent days with 89 being recorded on Thursday, 82 being recorded on Friday, 70 recorded on Saturday and a worrying 93 recorded on Sunday. For comparison, last Monday there were 94 new cases of coronaviru­s across northern Lincolnshi­re, 40 were in North East Lincolnshi­re and 54 were in North Lincolnshi­re

The previous week at the end of December saw the northern Lincolnshi­re record 72 new cases while three weeks ago we saw an increase of 89 new cases.

Last Monday the rolling rate of infection was 104.4 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in North East Lincolnshi­re and 208.4 in North Lincolnshi­re.

While both regions have improved in terms of comparativ­e rate against other local authoritie­s in the UK, North East Lincolnshi­re’s rate has actually increased over this time period.

According to the latest NHS data covering the period from January 2 to January 8, North East Lincolnshi­re has the best rolling seven day infection rate at 157.3 cases per 100,000 people.

For the same time period North Lincolnshi­re has recorded a rate of 191.5 cases per 100,000 people which a 17 per cent improvemen­t on the previous seven day interval.

It comes as Grimsby hospital is now treating 11 more coronaviru­s patients than before the weekend.

This is the first increase in patients reported after several weeks of gradual decline.

A total of 48 patients were being treated for coronaviru­s in Diana, Princess of Wales hospital as of yesterday morning - a rise from 37 on Friday, January 8.

The overall number of Covid patients under the care of the Northern Lincolnshi­re and Goole NHS hospital trust has risen from 85 to 93.

In Scunthorpe, the number of patients has fallen by two to 45.

Yesterday marked the third day out of the last four with no reported hospital deaths in northern Lincolnshi­re.

The Covid death toll for Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals is now 346 after two deaths on Friday.

Across the UK there were 46,169 new cases of the virus recorded over the last 24 hour period which was a significan­t fall the on the previous day’s total of 54,940.
