Mr McLaughlan is charged with robbery of three bottles of spirits, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of criminal damage over £5,000 by damaging a roof, roof tiles and a car, affray, wounding Det Insp Scott Miller with intent and attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to PC Michael Spaven.

The charges of robbery relate to an incident at the Carnforth Parade Premier store on Saturday where it is alleged that both men stole alcohol to the value of around £90.

They are also charged with the assault of a man who had intervened during the robbery of the Premier store where it is alleged that a shop worker was dragged outside.

One of the Humberside Police officers at the scene needed 12 stitches after sustaining a head injury from a roof tile. Posting on Twitter, Chief Constable Lee Freeman wrote: “Thankfully one of my officers is OK, but could have been much worse. Offenders who think climbing on roofs will lead us to leave are mistaken. We will not only ensure we stay until arrested, but the damage, disruption and fear you cause to residents will also be prosecuted.

“12 stitches to a head wound and hopefully no emerging issues over next few days.”
