Infection rate is England’s lowest

THE number of new coronaviru­s cases in northern Lincolnshi­re has continued its week-on-week improvemen­t as the region remains the best in England for rates of infection.

Across northern Lincolnshi­re there were 67 new cases of coronaviru­s in the last 24-hour period, as of yesterday, which is a slight rise on Monday’s total of 45.

Compared to the same time last week, the number of new cases is down from 78 and in the week prior to that at the end of December we recorded 80.

Of the 67 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in the latest daily update there were 32 in north-East Lincolnshi­re meaning the region has now seen 6,514 cases during the pandemic.

In north Lincolnshi­re there were 35 cases of the virus reported meaning the area has now recorded 6,709 since the beginning of the pandemic. In north-East Lincolnshi­re the latest nHS data gives the region a rolling seven-day infection rate of 152.9 cases per 100,000 people which is a 13 per cent fall on the previous seven-day interval. In north Lincolnshi­re the rate has shown a more dramatic improvemen­t and stands at 166.6 cases per 100,000 people and represents a 32 per cent reduction on the previous seven-day interval. The reductions mean that north-East Lincolnshi­re remains the area with the best rate in the country and north Lincolnshi­re has the second best, some way ahead of Devon which has a current rate of 206.9 (a 12 per cent increase).

At a national level the UK yesterday recorded 1,243 daily Covid deaths which is the second highest daily total since the pandemic began In terms of cases there were 45,533 new confirmed cases of coronaviru­s which roughly continues the downward trend from a peak recorded last Friday.

It comes as the deaths of a further six coronaviru­s patients in northern Lincolnshi­re were reported by the nHS.
