Kevin Clifton is bookies’ favourite to be the Badger
GRIMSBY’S Kevin Clifton is now favourite to be unveiled as the Badger on The Masked Singer UK. Kevin suddenly became the audience’s top guess after a very strong Strictly Come Dancing clue on Saturday’s episode of the reality show. The Masked Singer UK sees 12 different celebrities disguise themselves in colourful, themed costumes and sing to a panel of judges - made up of Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora, and Jonathan Ross - as well as a live studio audience.
Clues are given throughout the show as to who the celebrities are, but some of them can be red herrings. One by one, the celebrities get unmasked by the judges, with plenty of big surprises along the way. The identity of Badger has been hotly discussed by people on social media, and there are still a wide variety of people being suggested as the man behind the mask. However, this week’s show has put the spotlight on Kevin, after Badger was asked to give two facts and a lie about themselves.
The clues were “I’m good at dodging furniture,” “When working, I’m often found in green,” and, the most important one, “Strictly speaking, dancing is something I’m known for.”
Other clues which
potentially reveal the identity of Badger include: ■ Used to being anonymous.
■ Not easily recognised on the street.
■ Possible motorbike enthusiast.
■ Badger says: “I see things like a virtual world!”
Badger said the judges will have to get up early to see who he is.
He was “shy” when younger and kept his talent hidden.
Once he showed what he can do, his talent “blossomed”.
An Australian cork hat was seen in his workshop.
With the information available, especially Kevin’s history on Strictly Come Dancing, the bookies have now made Kevin Clifton the favourite to be unmasked as Badger.
According to odds by BetFair, Kevin Clifton is the favourite at 2/1, motorcyclist Carl Fogarty is second favourite at 11/4, Will Young is third favourite at 5/1, Prof Brian Cox is next at 6/1, and lead singer of Jamiroquai, Jay Kay, currently stands at 8/1.
If Kevin is the Badger it might be a while before we see him unmasked, as the Badger is currently the bookies’ favourite to win the competition after wowing the judges and audience alike.
The odds for Badger winning currently stand at 10/11, ahead of Viking at 4/1 and Sausage at 8/1. Kevin Clifton and Stacey Dooley have also fanned the flames themselves with comments they made to
Instagram while watching the show. After Stacey correctly guessed that Martine McCutcheon was the celebrity behind The Swan’s mask, Kevin asked her who the others are. Stacey quickly replied: “The Badger’s Kevin.”
On her own Instagram, she was much more coy about whether or not the couple were involved in the show.
She said: “I’ve had messages saying “are you the Sausage and is Kev the Badger”, we couldn’t possibly say, but I am an incredible singer.” When prompted by Kevin to sing, she replied: “I don’t want to give a way. I’m contractually obliged to keep it shtum.”
