TOLL BAR ROUNDABOUT TO CLOSE DURING DAY FOR FINAL PHASE OF WORKS

- By COREY BEDFORD corey.bedford@reachplc.com @CoreyBJourno

TOLL Bar roundabout is set to be completely closed to traffic during the day as resurfacing works continue.

The roundabout is getting a significant six-month regeneration to handle the demand on the roads, including two lanes being installed.

The work was originally planned to take place overnight, but due to “forecast deteriorating temperatures” the council has decided to switch to daytime closures to complete the project.

From Monday, January 18, to Friday, January 22, the roundabout will be completely closed to traffic from 7.30am to 6pm to allow surfacing and re-lining work to continue.

As well as the weather, the reduced traffic due to the national coronavirus lockdown has also contributed to the change of plans.

Through traffic from the A16 will be diverted via the A18 and localised diversions will be in place for Station Road traffic.

Any pedestrians, including school children, in the area will be diverted around the works. Marshalls will be in place to assist where necessary. Cabinet member for transport and the environment, Cllr Stewart Swinburn, explained:

“We can see the end of the project in sight now. But we need to get these works completed as soon as we can.

“I would like to thank parish councillors, residents, businesses, Tollbar Academy, and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding over the course of the works,” he said.

“I appreciate that this final phase will cause a lot of inconvenience locally, but I’m assured the team is doing what it can to reduce this.”

Public liaison officer appointed by CR Reynolds Chris Butts is available until Friday during office hours on 07779 431 127 or email at tollbarroundabout@crreynolds.co.uk.

Specific issues regarding the project can be raised by contacting the delivery team by email at Tollbarjunction@nelincs.gov.uk or write to Toll Bar Junction Improvements Engagement Team, New Oxford House, George Street, Grimsby, DN31 1HB.
