Our Covid cases remain stable as rest of country battles high numbers

ANOTHER 68 people have tested positive for coronaviru­s in northern Lincolnshi­re.

The region’s new case numbers have stayed at a similar level in recent days, and rates in North East Lincolnshi­re and North Lincolnshi­re remain two of the lowest in England, where elsewhere there have been huge surges.

Across all of the UK, there were 47,525 new cases reported yesterday. There were also 1,564 new Covid-19 deaths - which is a new daily death record for the country.

In comparison, there were 68 new coronaviru­s cases confirmed across Northern Lincolnshi­re on Wednesday afternoon.

Of those new cases, 28 were in North East Lincolnshi­re, bringing the overall total there to 6,542 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The remaining 40 cases were confirmed for North Lincolnshi­re, taking the total there to 6,749. There were 67 new cases on Tuesday.

Despite more people testing positive, the region is not seeing the same large increase in infections being recorded across the rest of England.

The case rates for both areas remain some of the lowest in the country, with North East

Lincolnshi­re’s at 141 per 100,000 population, and North Lincolnshi­re’s at 143.4.

According to the NHS, this puts them as first and second in Upper Tier Local Authoritie­s in England with the lowest rates.

Sadly, a further coronaviru­s hospital patient has died in northern Lincolnshi­re, bringing the total for January to 21 and the overall death toll to 353.

There are currently 90 coronaviru­s patients in hospitals run by the local NHS Trust – 46 at Grimsby, 43 at Scunthorpe and one at Goole.

Of these, six are in ICU at Grimsby and four are in ICU at Scunthorpe.
