PRAISE FOR NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE SCHOOLS THAT HAVE GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND DURING LOCKDOWN

- By PAIGE FRESHWATER

PEOPLE aged 65 and over in North East Lincolnshire are being invited to book their Covid-19 vaccine appointments.

It comes as two more pharmacies prepare to offer the vaccination in North East Lincolnshire from the middle of next week. Those who are eligible will be able to book vaccinations at Birkwood Pharmacy on Westward Ho, Cottingham Pharmacy on Wellington Street and Drugs4Delivery at the Acorn Business Park off Moss Road using the national booking service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination

Dr Ekta Elston, local GP and medical director of NHS North East Lincolnshire CCG, said: “I urge all over 65s who have received an invitation letter to book their appointment as soon as they’re contacted. “It is essential that they protect themselves and others from the virus. “Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and minimal waiting time.

“On the day, volunteer marshals will greet and guide you through the process and help you if you have any questions.

“We just ask that you don’t turn up too early for your appointment to avoid creating queues. “This vaccination programme is the biggest in our history. “While it will take some time to offer the vaccine to all eligible people, we are pleased that we are moving swiftly through cohorts identified by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and are now able to invite over 65s to book their jabs.”

Those who cannot book online can call a free 119 number, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week. The system allows patients to pick a convenient location and time. The phone line can get very busy, so please try to ring later in the day if you can’t get through straight away. British Sign

Language, text relay and interpreter services are available.

If you can’t book any slots in your preferred location, please try again later, when more appointments are added to the system.

Alternatively, if these sites are not convenient, over 65s can choose to have their vaccination at their local GP-led vaccination services. No one will be missed out and local practices will be in touch at the appropriate time with those people who have not booked an appointment.

THROUGHOUT lockdown one of the biggest worries for many parents has been the education of their children with many suddenly faced with homeschooling.

Luckily for them a set of superhero teachers and support staff were on hand to help them through these difficult months across North East Lincolnshire.

We asked Grimsby Telegraph readers to tell us about the schools that have gone above and beyond during the lockdown - and you responded in your hundreds!

Every school has done their bit to make sure parents and children are okay during this difficult time

Here is a celebration of what you told us that schools and teaching staff have done during lockdown to help you and your family:

YARBOROUGH ACADEMY

SCARTHO INFANTS AND JUNIORS

Helen Barnes said: “Scartho Junior Academy have been amazing. My daughter has been there during both lockdowns and they’ve done everything to support her and make her feel safe.”

Kayleigh Phillips said: “Scartho infants - they’ve been fantastic, comment on every single piece of work I send, leave my son a personalised video at the end of each day and he has been given two certificates for his hard work. They’ve done nothing but praise and support me and the work I’ve done with him and they’ve called me to tell me how well I’m doing. When I’ve struggled they’ve given me help and support to teach the way they do. “Scartho juniors - fantastic support for my older son in year three, the head teacher is amazing and very supportive.

“He goes out of his way to support the children, supports their health mentally, goes out his way to deliver two assembly’s via Zoom with the children every week, boosts them with confidence and supports their mental health.

“I think both of them have supported me and our family massively and they deserve credit where it is due! 100% fantastic schools.” Sara High said: “Scartho Juniors support with home schooling has been absolutely amazing, with you every step of the way, Zoom calls twice a day with their class teacher and assembly’s with the head teacher twice a week.
