New infections fall while patient deaths rise

A FURTHER 28 people have tested positive for coronaviru­s across northern Lincolnshi­re in the past 24 hours.

In the daily coronaviru­s update by the government, 18 people in North East Lincolnshi­re have tested positive for the virus, bringing the area’s overall total to 7,721.

In North Lincolnshi­re, just 10 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the overall total to 8,076 since the pandemic began.

North East Lincolnshi­re’s case rate currently stands at 111.6 cases per 100,000 population in a seven-day period, making them the 36th highest upper tier local authority in England.

North Lincolnshi­re’s case rate is a bit lower, standing at 88.8 cases per 100,000 population, making them the 63rd highest upper tier local authority. The region has been mostly avoided the highs of the post-Christmas coronaviru­s wave which spread across most of England, but the area’s numbers have also not decreased along with the rest of the country.

In East Lindsey, they had an increase of nine new cases, bringing the overall total to 5,898. The case rate currently stands as 68.4 cases per 100,000 population. NHS England also sadly confirmed that another coronaviru­s patient being treated in a northern Lincolnshi­re hospital has died.

The patient was confirmed to have died on March 1, making it the first death of the month, and bringing the overall total to 424 deaths in hospitals run by the Northern Lincolnshi­re and Goole NHS

Foundation Trust.

Last month saw the area’s lowest monthly deaths since the beginning of the second wave, with 28 deaths in February at this time.

However, the NHS hospitals in the area are still under significan­t pressure from Covid-19, with 63 patients being treated in the region’s hospitals – 35 at Grimsby and 28 at Scunthorpe as of yesterday morning.

The Trust currently has no patients in intensive care.
