CLEETHORPES’ Beachcomber holiday park and entertainment centre has changed hands in a multimillion pound deal.

The new owners Away Resorts Ltd confirmed they are buying up the large site and hope to open once the coronavirus lockdown restrictions are eased. They also own the prestigious Tattershall Lakes site in Lincolnshire and another holiday camp near Boston.

The firm has invested heavily in luxury holiday homes and associated entertainment facilities, including outdoor swimming pools and indoor attractions. A spokesman for the new owners said they will be revealing some “exciting news” soon. Letters were sent to residents confirming the deal and they hope to be able to return to their homes next month. There are an estimated 800 caravans on the park on North Sea Lane.

One resident told the Grimsby Telegraph: “This is great for the town. The pool has not been open for a couple of seasons, so it will be great to have it back and working.

“The Starlight bar and the The Showbar will get back to attracting people for all sorts of events once the lockdown is over. I can’t wait.”

He added: “We all hope it will become an all-yearround park. That way, if there were ever to be any more Covid lockdowns, we would be able to stay in our homes.

“All we want is a quiet life. But a lot are upset at having to pay the site fees, including tax, when we have not seen a penny of it because we have had to be offsite.

“We all got told a year ago that we only had four hours to get out when the first lockdown was announced.”

One resident told the Grimsby Telegraph she got into such a panic to leave the site that she forgot to pack underwear and only had the one pair of knickers she left in.

“I can’t wait to get back. It will save me washing my only pair of knickers every day,” she said.

She said residents are excited about the plans for the site and hope the firm invests as it has done at Tattershall Lakes Country Park.

Last summer the firm unveiled the £1.5 million pool which was the latest in a series of upgrades at the holiday park.

It also opened the resort’s adult only cocktail bar and lounge, called the Giggling Goose.

Last year Away Resorts’ chief executive, Carl Castledine, said it is an exciting time for the company and the region.

He said: “Tattershall Lakes Country Park is one of our most popular resorts and our customers love holidaying in this wonderful part of the world. We are really proud to offer guests improved and exciting facilities. The new pool in particular is the icing on the cake and we’re so glad ours guests are now getting to enjoy it.”

The reopening of caravan sites is part of Step Two of the road map out of lockdown and if infection rates decline sufficiently they could reopen on April 12 at the earliest. Some venues in other parts of the country are planning to reopen in May.
