Infection rates among worst in country

CORONAVIRU­S cases in northern Lincolnshi­re have increased by 70 in the last 24 hours. In North East Lincolnshi­re there were 20 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 confirmed yesterday, according to the latest government figures. It means the region has now had 8,121 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Compared to North Lincolnshi­re, cases there are increasing at a faster rate, with 50 new infections reported yesterday.

Since the pandemic began, there have now been 8,455 confirmed cases in North Lincolnshi­re.

In neighbouri­ng East Lindsey, which includes Tetney and Louth, there were 30 new cases reported, taking the total in that area to 6,048. The infection rates in northern Lincolnshi­re continue to be among the worst in the country with both North and North East Lincolnshi­re appearing in the top 10 areas for the highest seven day rolling rates in England.

In North East Lincolnshi­re, the latest NHS data gives the region a rolling rate of 146 cases per 100,000 people which is a slight reduction on the weekend but is still the third worst overall rate.

In North Lincolnshi­re the rate is currently 126.5 cases per 100,000 people which is a small increase on the weekend and is a 43 per cent week-on-week increase meaning it is the fourth worst performing area.

There was one new tragic death announced by the region’s hospitals but the latest UK figure gives hope that the tide against the pandemic is turning.

The UK reported its lowest total of daily losses since October last year and figures in the last 24 hours have continued that trend with the lowest toll on a Monday since October 5.

With the latest announced loss to the virus, North Lincolnshi­re and Goole Hospital Trust have recorded 436 so far.

As of yesterday morning, the Trust was treating 43 coronaviru­s patients - 16 at Grimsby and 27 at Scunthorpe. Of these, four are in ICU – one at Grimsby and three at Scunthorpe
