TWO students at a Grimsby academy have tested positive for Covid19, with 37 pupils now in self-isolation.

A letter sent out to parents at Oasis Academy Wintringham confirmed that two Year 10 pupils had tested positive for the virus.

As a precaution, those who were in close proximity to the students have had to self-isolate, with the school informing parents that the Year 10 area will be deep cleaned. Secondary school pupils in England have to be tested for Covid-19 twice a week as part of the government’s plans for lockdown easing - which aims to find asymptomatic coronavirus cases before they have a chance to spread in school.

The school also said that the cases are a “reminder” that parents, staff, and pupils need to remain vigilant in both the school and the wider community, and that they are continuing to monitor the situation.

The letter sent to parents on Friday states: “This morning we have been advised by public-health England that we have had two confirmed cases of Covid-19 within Oasis Academy Wintringham. The students are in Year 10.

“We have taken a number of measures to ensure that our students and staff are as safe as possible in school. These include:

■ Thirty-seven students have been sent home and told to isolate.

■ Deep cleaning of the Year 10 area. “These cases are a reminder that we all need to remain vigilant both in school and in the wider community. We have strict procedures and protocols in our academy and we will continue to ensure that these are adhered to at all times.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. “This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child; please be assured that we will keep in regular contact.”
