Covid death toll rises in northern Lincolnshire

-

THERE has been another tragic death of a hospital patient with coronavirus in northern Lincolnshire.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust have confirmed a new death in one of their hospitals.

The death was announced on Friday but it happened on March 1.

Due to a lag in reporting, the death has only just been confirmed.

It brings the total of fatalities with coronavirus registered as a cause of death to 449 since the pandemic began over a year ago.

It comes as the latest infection figures have been publicised.

The number of new cases reported in North East Lincolnshire on Friday, dropped from 19 to 15. It brings the total number of people who have had coronavirus confirmed to 8,490 since March last year.

North Lincolnshire had 22 new cases reported which was up from 17 on Thursday. The total for the borough for the year stands at 9,070 so far.

East Lindsey had just six new cases for the whole of the district, which stretches from Tetney and Holton-le-Clay in the north to Skegness and the outskirts of Boston. The district’s total for the pandemic so far is 6,317.

Nationally there were 3,402 new cases confirmed on Good Friday.

The impact of the lockdown which began at the start of the year has had the effect of reducing infections in most areas of the country.

But it is the efficient rollout of vaccinations which has had the most impressive effect with more than 75,000 doses given in North East Lincolnshire. The key to ensuring the irreversible end to lockdown and the safety of residents will be the second dose injections.

Care Plus Group Chief Nurse, Lisa Revell at the Quayside and Open Door Medical Practice on Albion Street, Grimsby, said staff had been working hard at safeguarding patients with their second dose appointments.

The surgery is capable of seeing 500 patients in a day and has had three clinics administering second doses.

She said: “We are now four months into the vaccination programme and the staff here have given 150 per cent effort. They continue to do it with a smile and their dedication.

“It is very important all patients come to get their vaccination, especially their second one to get the optimisation. That is the way we are going to get out of the Covid lockdown.”
