We need to think about our struggling traders
Following our story about Cleethorpes councillor Oliver Freeston urging police to adopt camera technology to help deter people from travelling long distances now lockdown restrictions have eased, you had your say on our Facebook page.
■Angela Garner: A “very sensible” suggestion from Councillor Freestone, one which will benefit the local economy no end and which all those traders who have been struggling through lockdown will no doubt support 100 per cent.
■Robert Jenkins: There are no laws to stop people travelling anywhere in England so the police have no authority to prevent visitors to Cleethorpes, we have to rely on common sense and people following the “advice”. ■Nigel Crunkhurn: There is no legal way they can do this. We have the right to travel and be outside to do what we want.
■Daina Sedlina: I’ll remember that when I’ll go to vote on May 4!
■Liz Victoria: Why? If someone is acting within the law then preventing them going to a public place for no reason is a breach of their human rights.
■Kathryn Fawcett: I think what they mean is people travelling from further afield.
■Sarah Louise Martin: We are allowed to travel. Removing parking will affect local businesses and residents. ■Kerry Ryder: So the police trawl through ANPR camera footage and discover someone has travelled from outside the area. What are they going do with the information because they can’t fine them because the rules have changed? What a total waste of money that would be.
■Sandra Brown: The distance we can now travel is automatically restricted by no overnight/indoor stay overs so visitors should be welcomed under this guidance After all a walk along the beach is great fresh air exercise
■Donna Jefferson: Will he be still saying the same if people start to avoid Cleethorpes altogether and go elsewhere?
■Ann Smith: This is ridiculous. People are allowed to go to self catering accommodation if it is one family from the 12 April. Whilst we still need to be cautious we also need to think about the bars, cafes, non essential shops that have been closed for the best part of the year.
