Area’s Covid infection rate and cases continue to fall

CORONAVIRU­S infection rates in northern Lincolnshi­re are continuing to show improvemen­t as the region records another day of low cases and no deaths. Across the region there were 36 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in the latest data from the government compared to 47 this time last week. In North East Lincolnshi­re there were 13 new confirmed cases of the virus on Bank Holiday Monday following just three cases confirmed on Easter Sunday. It means the area has now reported 8,525 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. In North Lincolnshi­re there were 23 cases confirmed following testing on Bank Holiday Monday. The area’s total now stands at 9,117.

In East Lindsey there were seven new cases reported to give the area a new total of 6,335. It’s current seven day infection rate is 54.3 cases per 100,000 people.

The infection rate in North East Lincolnshi­re has continued to show steady progress and in the latest NHS data the area is given a rate of 67.1 cases per 100,000 people which is an improvemen­t of 23 per cent on the previous week.

North Lincolnshi­re has show remarkable progress in the latest data, recently one of the worst in the country for infection rates. It is now down to ninth place at a rate of 84.7 cases per 100,000 people.

This is a week-on-week improvemen­t of 40 per cent. There were also no deaths involving coronaviru­s recorded in the hospitals serving Grimsby and Scunthorpe. The toll of patients who have succumbed to the virus remains at 450 since the pandemic began. Across the UK there were 2,762 new confirmed cases of the virus and 26 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

It is worth noting that daily figures are often lower on Mondays and they may be skewed further this week due to the Bank Holiday weekend.
