It’s open to abuse

-

IT SEEMS like Easter in Cleethorpes was a nice little earner for Doncaster Council and the private warden company

They raked in £6,700 in fines on dog walkers, and another £1,100 on litter droppers. It reminds me of the time when vast amounts of our cash went to the North Bank when the ridiculous Parkway 30mph speed limit was enforced.

All local dog owners should know the rules about the main Cleethorpes beach during the spring/summer. The ban is there for a reason. No-one wants to contend with dog mess or have family gatherings plagued by out of control pooches.

Trippers, however, may have had a nasty surprise when they were hit with £100 fines.

With that kind of sting it may be the last time they visit the resort, which is a shame.

Maybe an initial warning for non locals arriving over Easter, rather than an immediate penalty, might have been more appropriate. Still, NELC does get a few crumbs from this private/public money making exercise, at 17 per cent of the takings.

WELL, we have to take our hats off to the dedicated people who have been clearing out the wartime concrete bunkers on the shoreline past Humberston.

It was a dirty job and good luck to them. Like many I’ve walked past the structures countless times and accepted them for what they were, a crumbling vestige of a time when we feared an attack or invasion from the sea.

I wouldn’t label them iconic, however, and as for opening them up for ‘heritage days’, that’s a bit of a stretch. Maybe if they had original weaponry and military mannequins in them, but on their own they’re just pretty ugly low rise lumps of reinforced concrete.

FOOTBALLERS and their clubs seems to be hitting their heads against a brick wall on the subject of online racial abuse.

Liverpool is the latest to say it cannot be allowed to continue after three of their players were targeted following the defeat to Real Madrid.

Of course it shouldn’t, but while social media giants do nothing about pre-identification, and governments pussyfoot around, no amount of complaining will count for anything.

Taking a knee and giving up Twitter or Instagram may highlight the problem but it won’t go away.

And it’s quite unfair and insulting to label the UK as racist because a few idiots are allowed to act with impunity.

Anyone, anywhere on this planet who is connected to the internet can anonymously abuse anyone they choose.

The pathetic response from the hosts is that if they do it several times they might have the address they’re using banned. Wow, we can all rest easy.
