AN explosive device found in a garage on a residential Cleethorpes street has been destroyed in a dramatic operation involving an Army Explosives Ordnance Disposal team. Humberside Police received a call from a member of the public to tell them about the unexploded device yesterday morning and attended an address in Seaford Road. According to the police report a resident had found the device while cleaning out their garage. Bystanders captured video footage of the bomb disposal team at work after they had transported the device to the beach. A police van and an Explosives Ordnance Disposal team from the Royal Logistic Corps attended an address on Seaford Road at around 11am yesterday morning. The device was deemed safe to move and police officers and the bomb disposal team co-ordinated with the coastguard to move it to a quiet area of beach near The Fitties. The device was detonated in a controlled explosion on an open area of the beach at around noon to ensure a minimal impact on the general public.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “We received a call from a member of the public who had discovered an unexploded device whilst clearing out their garage on Seaford Road, Cleethorpes.

The Explosives Ordnance Disposal team attended the property and moved the device to Cleethorpes Beach to ensure minimal disruption to the public, where it was safely detonated and disposed of.”
