Battling for honours - despite the deluge

MATCH ANGLERS HAVE BEEN BUSY, BUT HEAVY RAIN HAS AFFECTED WEIGHTS

LAST weekend’s heavy rain put the fish off once again around the country.

The sudden deluge, especially on Saturday night, affected a lot of the weights on the Sunday.

One of these was the Carr Lane AC match, which was held at Wold View on the Ultimate Lake. There was a very good attendance; the lake had nearly all the pegs full.

Ray Love was on peg 1 and had a bit of room casting the bomb and pellet to the other side of the pond.

He kept finding the carp - while other anglers were struggling he finished up winning the match with 33.14lb. Alan Ingledrew was on peg 12 and he managed second place with 33.3lb. Then it was Jim Fletcher with 21.14lb.

Club Secretary Wayne Stevens, who is renowned for not fishing much over two sections of his pole, excelled. Switching from the pole to the feeder, he managed to grab a fourth place with 21.8lb. Clayton AC fished their first midweek match of the season at Tripp Lake - and I took part.

Dave Bell caught a 7lb carp on his first drop and At well over 70 years old, Ben Colebrook was showing the younger ones how it should be done. He was dragging them out

Peter Clayton was tucked away on peg 8 with loads and loads of room to spare but tales of lost fish was the best he could do at the weigh in.

Yours truly was catching carp, fishing shallow and at a steady rate, especially towards the end of the match.

Over the other side, Ray Love was doing his best in a noted flyer to turn young Adam Love over in peg 6, but Adam was having a run of fish slapping in pellet and Ray had to make do with taking the section win instead.

Results: 1 Tony Burman 76lb 11oz; 2 Adam Love 57lb 5oz; 3 Ben Colebrook 46lb 14oz.

Section winners: Paul Power 43lb 15oz; Jordan Wilkie 35lb 12oz; Ray Love 43lb 1oz. On to the sea fishing and the friends fishing club have been busy. Last Sunday they travelled to Goxhill. First was Steve MacGregor who is in a fantastic run of form at the moment.

He seems to like this time of year. Steve had seven fish for 176cm, an all-flounder catch. He also had the biggest fish of the day, a 37cm flounder.

Next in was Jack Barlow with eight fish for 164cm. Third was John Atkinson who is trying to recover from a shoulder injury that is making casting very painful. Hopefully John is on the mend and will be back to full fitness shortly.

Then, on Wednesday night, they went closer to home on the Humber Bank wall, on the Courtaulds straight.

Ian Nelson was in fantastic form, he had over one metre within 20 minutes of the match starting.

He kept this up most of the match , but had a quiet spell in the middle of the match. This did not stop him winning the match; he had 16 fish for 417cm.

He was nearly caught up by Steve MacGregor, who had a slow start but then had a very fast finish. Steve had 16 fish for 410cm which once again included the biggest fish of the night, a 33cm flounder. John Atkinson was third with 13 fish for 337cm. Fourth was Jim Nicholson with 13 fish for 304cm.
