THE former Beeches Hotel is set to become a prestigious new Manor House venue thanks to new owner. Ryan Mabbott, the owner of The Ship Inn at Barnoldby-le-Beck will extend the “gold standard” of hospitality to Scartho and bring it back to life as a main attraction for visitors.

The new venture is set to create up to 30 new jobs and become a warm and inviting “piano-bar” style of fine dining and celebration.

The 18-roomed hotel was used by North East Lincolnshire Council to house homeless people during the pandemic.

But after being vacated at the end of the summer, it went on the market. Ryan took over the beautiful Barnoldby-le-Beck bar and restaurant in October and has seen the opportunity to bring the former Beeches Hotel back into business.

He is aiming to be open by July, following a “top to bottom” refit and some of the rooms will be merged to create a plush 16-bedroom hotel with all ensuite rooms.

“It was the place to be a few years ago and we are aiming to bring it back to its former glory, where people can come for special occasions and enjoy a high standard of hospitality,” said Ryan. He added: “It looks more of a Manor House and I like the name. It only had the name because of the tree at the front. The whole place is getting redone and will have a nice outdoor space.” He is anticipating being able to cater for around 70 guests in the bar and lounge and restaurant and up to 20 more outside.

A new patisserie is included in the kitchen refurbishment.

The venue once had a three-star rating and was home to The Round Table. Operations manager Brett King said: “It needs our level of service standard. It has needed someone to pick it up and bring it to the same gold standard as The Ship.”

He formerly worked in hotel management in London and Leeds. “Food and beverage is my passion. We want this to be that reputable place it was before and it is going to be quite fancy and emulate the same style and service etiquette we have set,” told Brett.

The head chef will be David Morley, also in charge at The Ship Inn. Ryan started his working career with ConocoPhillips before joining Morrisons as their youngest ever manager. He then worked for Sainsburys and Co-op before fulfilling his passion of working in hospitality and bought a restaurant in The Lake District. The success was soon followed by the opportunity to buy an hotel in the scenic Troutbeck area of The Lakes. He said he was pleased to be making a substantial investment in Scartho to cater for visitors from the surrounding area and to take party bookings. Contractors are due to start working on the refurbishment on the venue, where each room occupant, when it was housing the homeless, had a new microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle and TV.
