‘Let’s make the best of it - and get out quickly’

-

JAMES McKeown says his Grimsby Town side must make the best of where they find themselves and attempt to bounce back as soon as possible.

The Mariners will play in the National League again next season after being relegated from League Two.

But Town’s long-serving goalkeeper says the players can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves when they run out at more humble surroundings next campaign.

“I don’t want to be a non league player. Nobody wants to be a nonleague club, but we are.

You have to make the best of things,” he told his club’s website. “Some of my best memories of this club are from the away days in nonleague last time we were down there. “Going to Wembley four times - that’s unbelievable. And we have got every chance again.

“We are not going to win the FA Cup or the League Cup, and it’s tough to win the Checkatrade Trophy as a League Two side.

“But the FA Trophy is an unbelievable opportunity to get to Wembley. “We’d love to go up as champions, but it’s a tough league and we could end up back at Wembley through the Play-ofs.

“There are a lot of opportunities. Wherever you find yourself in life, you have to make the best of it. There’s no point moaning about it. You are where you are.

“There’s no point standing there being a victim, saying ‘this ground’s rubbish’ or ‘this isn’t like it was in the league’. OK, well let’s get out of it then. “There will be some tough days, no doubt, and some defeats along the way.

“We shouldn’t be where we’re going, but we are, so let’s make the best of it and get out as soon as we can. “There will be some unbelievable days ahead.”
