Fans react to releases

-

GRIMSBY Town announced the departures of ten players on its retained list - and there were few complaints from fans.

It would have been hard to argue a strong case for many of the out of contract players staying on after a poor season in which very few stood out.

Of those coming towards the end of their deals, only Luke Hendrie, Giles Coke and Elliott Hewitt have been offered a new one. Most fans reacting on Twitter said Paul Hurst has got it spot on with his retained list - and many went a step further and said several of those still under contract should be helped out of the door too.

The ten players leaving are: James Hanson, Matt Green, Stefan Payne, Sam Habergham, Joe Bunney, Ludvig Ohman, Julien Lamy, Alhagi Touray Sisay, Cameron Painter, Jock Curran.

Here is a selection of views from social media:

@Rallers82: No surprises really, although I can’t see a lot of those under contract still being here at the start of the season. @jzwsmith: Absolutely bang on. No complaints whatsoever. UTM @dannyc1402: Waterfall, Williams, Scannell, Rose, Starbuck and Morais I suspect are all likely to leave before next season too. Can’t see any of them getting much game time

@Cuddy75: Feel sorry for Bunney, injury stopped him dead in his tracks. About half of those under contract will be helped to leave I hope.

@jamescrockart: Pleased we have offered new contracts to Hendrie, Hewitt and Coke, but hope some of the contracted players move on. Will be an interesting off-season.

@Bear_Mariner: Let’s hope we can move on some of the ‘dead wood’ too that are still under contract

@Nath_El: Ruthless as could be, hopefully 3-4 more off-loaded as well! Busy summer ahead
