School guidance ‘outstanding’
CAREERS guidance at Healing School has been judged outstanding after it became the first secondary in North East Lincolnshire to be awarded the Quality in Careers Standard.
It followed a comprehensive review of provision at the school, with the awarding body saying careers had remained high profile, despite lockdown.
The school was assessed against the eight ‘Gatsby benchmarks’ of Good Career Guidance as part of the accreditation process.
Principal Mrs Dewland was “thrilled” the hard work and support of a specialist careers team had been recognised.
“This is a fantastic achievement,” Mrs Dewland said.
“I think the fact Healing Science Academy is the only secondary school designation in the Quality in
Careers Standard awards for North East Lincolnshire speaks volumes about our curriculum and the outstanding education provision we provide.
“This is one of the many reasons why students who attend our Academy become so successful and are prepared for the wider world of work and further education.
“Special thanks go to Nikkita Henshall who has been at the heart of the programme, always tailoring and refining our provision to ensure students get the very best support.”
The Gatsby benchmarks Healing was assessed against are:
■ A stable careers programme
■ Learning from career and labour market information
■ Addressing the needs of each pupil
■ Linking curriculum learning to careers
■ Encounters with employers and employees
■ Experiences of workplaces
■ Encounters with further and higher education
■ Personal guidance
The assessing body said: “Healing School provides excellent Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).
“It has adapted well to circumstances during lockdown, ensuring careers remain high profile.”
Students also rate the careers guidance at Healing.
One said: “It’s been really useful to find out about the options I have and the different courses that will help me in my future.”
Another explained: “I was unsure about what I wanted to do for my future but speaking to the staff and getting the chance to experience taster days at local colleges and sixth forms has really helped me make the decision.” ■Parents /guardians of current Year 6 pupils who wish to find out more about the school can visit www.healingschool.co.uk or find it on Facebook.
