GRIMSBY Town are edging towards a clean bill of health on the injury front. The Mariners sit top of the National League table after 11 games, with their passage to the FA Cup first round safely secured.

Paul Hurst’s side return to league action against Yeovil Town today looking for a fourth successive triumph in the fifth tier.

The Town boss will revert to five substitutes today after an extended bench last weekend, meaning several players will have to miss out on the matchday squad.

Hurst’s selection headaches could soon grow as players step up their return from the treatment table.

Here’s the latest on each Grimsby Town injury and their current expected return date.

Ryan Taylor: The big striker didn’t train with the first team last week after suffering from fatigue but is expected to return against Yeovil Town.

What Hurst said: “There was an air of caution around Ryan Taylor. He should be fine, it was just precautionary, he’s on the other side of 30 and we want him fresh and available.

“Against Woking, he started to fatigue a little. He’s been doing fitness work but not with the squad, he should be ready to go next week.

Expected return date: Saturday, October 23.

John McAtee: Hurst confirmed that Town’s star man missed last weekend’s win over Bromsgrove Sporting after picking up a knock in training to his knee.

What Hurst has said: “It’s hopefully nothing too major, he wouldn’t have started anyway. We will just have to see going into next week but we do have a free week to prepare for the league.

“I certainly hope so (he’ll be available). I don’t know for certain, it was Thursday when he took a knock. We were waiting to see how it settled down but it seemed to yesterday.

“He had swelling on the back of his knee where he stretched for a ball and David Longe-King made some contact. It seems to have settled so we’re hopeful for Yeovil.” Expected return date: Saturday, October 23.

Joel Grant: The midfielder hasn’t featured for Town yet this season after picking up an injury in pre-season. He’s on the road to recovery though and could be back training with the first-team squad imminently.

What Hurst has said: “Joel potentially could train at some point with the youth team next week, how that goes will determine when he joins with us. Expected return date: TBC, possibly November 6.

Sean Scannell:

Scannell is another player yet to feature for Town this season after suffering a setback in training.

He remains on the treatment table and could still miss another month of action.

What Hurst said: “Sean is still a little while away.”

Expected return date: TBC.
