GRIMSBY Town’s team selection against Yeovil Town will be impacted by a spread of Covid-19 within the camp, Paul Hurst has confirmed.

The Mariners boss admitted that several positive tests could lead to some absentees this weekend but the match will go ahead at Blundell Park. Hurst did not name the players affected.

Town are looking for a fourth successive National League victory to continue at the top of the division but have seen their preparations impacted by the virus.

Hurst, though, has insisted that he still has a competitive squad available to him for the weekend clash.

“We have got some Covid in the camp, unfortunately,” Hirst told Grimsby Live.

“That will impact some selection for me. I think there is an inevitability about it, looking at the wider picture.

“Unfortunately, the headlines we all read and see online, the figures are going through the roof.

“We have done everything we can to make sure it doesn’t spread. It’s a different example from what we encountered at the start of the season.

“We still have a squad for training and the game. It has had an impact in terms of what I can select. Yesterday morning was difficult in terms of getting to grips with where we were at and testing after.

“It’s not an excuse or anything, whatever happens. We hope it goes well and we have another good weekend but if it doesn’t, it won’t be through that. We’ve just had to change things.

“We’re still looking forward to the game and playing in front of another good crowd.

“The difficulty is that we have had an illness around which isn’t Covid.

“Not every illness is Covid, that’s a difficulty at this time of year.

“The most important thing is that the people who have it are looked after. I’m sure they will be fine but in the short-term, we’ve had to prepare differently.”
